A gold purity test at this shop is a touchstone (urai kal) — a dark slab. Gold leaves a streak; acid on that streak tells an experienced eye what the colour is saying. That happens on this counter, not behind a curtain.
The touchstone method
The touchstone method is older than any machine in the shop. After the streak, the electronic weighing machine is zeroed. You read the same number we write. That pair — colour and weight — is the whole test we owe you before an offer.
We have used this method at 116/1 Erukkenchery High Road since 1996. It is why the film on the homepage lingers on a hand and a stone, not on a rate ticker.
Not to test it. The touchstone takes a rub. Cutting or melting is not how we start.
What is KDM gold? An older stamp on many family pieces. 22K vs 24K: 916 is the 22K hallmark number; 24K is fine gold. We pay against the streak, not the stamp alone.
